Asin will get an award in the best actress category for Kamal Haasan’s magnum opus ‘Dasavathaaram’ at Singapore Expo Max Pavilion.
The Hindi version of the film ‘Dasavathaaram’ hit theatres this Friday.
The award is organised by a Singapore-based International Tamil Film Awards (ITFA). The ITFA, recognizes the contribution of film artists towards Tamil cinema on an international scale. Asin will be presented with the award on May 16 in Singapore.
The ITFA is an organization, which recognize, honour and applaud the role of film personalities and actors all those who have contributed towards Tamil cinema on a global scale.
About 21 awards will be presented under different categories to the best in Kollywood.
After achieving great success in the Tamil film industry, Asin moved to the Hindi film industry. She becomes darling of the masses after the record-breaking success of Aamir Khan’s ‘Ghajini’, and bagged several awards for the movie.
In ‘Dasavatharam’, the actress has played an unforgettable character as a touch-me-not Brahmin girl, who talks non-stop through her screen-time.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Asin is being considered for the female lead opposite King Khan in an untitled Hindi film by Yash Raj Films (YRF).
At present, Asin is busy shooting for Vipul Shah's musical entertainer ‘London Dreams’, which will hit theatres in August 2009.
At the muhurat of his latest film ‘Silambattam’, Silambarasan said that he had made many changes in ‘Kettavan’. He evaded the question when asked whether the heroine Lekha was shown the door.
Reliable sources, however, reveal that Silambarasan has decided to remove Lekha and rope in Asin in ‘Kettavan’.
It is known to everyone that Silambarasan is planning to re-start the shooting of ‘Kettavan’ only after finishing ‘Kaalai’ and ‘Silambaattam’. The original producers too have opted out of the project and it will be produced under the banner of V. Ravichandran’s Oscar Films.
When Oscar Ravichandran approached Vijaya T. Rajendhar for Simbu’s call-sheet for a new film, it appears that T.R. told him to take over ‘Kettavan’ instead of launching a new film with Simbu in the lead. It is said that Ravichandran had even agreed to and returned the Rs.3 crores of money that the previous producer of ‘Kettavan’ had spent.
Insiders disclose that Simbu’s sudden change of mind towards the VJ turned actor Lekha is the main reason for all the aforesaid changes. Add to this Silambarasan’s new found liking for Asin and you know what all the fuss is about. Feelers have been sent to Asin to persuade her to accept the offer.
One might think that Silambarasan is acting too big for his own comfort. But he can afford to do so, given his current market value. He is one of the leading saleable and bankable stars in the industry and has been the distributors’ darling for quite sometime now. It is said that his market value is next only to Vijay and Ajith. Business circles say that his Kaalai has fetched Rs. 18 crores.
So, Silambarasan enjoys the ‘luxury’ of changing the heroine after shooting more than 30 per cent of the movie. It might sound crazy but that is what show biz is all about!
“I was ready to overlook these fake IDs using my name as long as they weren’t harmful. But now the problem is getting out of hand,” Asin, who made it big in Hindi films with “Ghajini”, told IANS.
The other night a colleague had a whole long conversation with ’Asin’ and called up the next day to share her excitement about the intimate conversation they had.
“I nearly fell off my chair. I won’t name this actress. But she said we shared our most intimate secrets on Facebook. I nearly fell of my chair and asked her whom did she share her secrets with because it was most certainly not me.
“Two days ago a journalist came to interview me and said she got all the information on me from what I had written on Twitter. For the record, I’m not on any of the social-networking websites. Apart from my own website, I’m not on the internet for any other purpose. I started blogging even before Aamir Khan did in August 2005,” said Asin.
“I was clubbed with Chetan Bhagat and Shashi Tharoor and put on a social networking website. But I’m not on Orkut, Facebook or Twitter. Apparently there are lots of fake profiles,” she added.
Asin is also upset with false reports that she relishes meat despite the fact that she is a vegetarian.
“Its been ages since I have had non-vegetarian food. For all practical purposes, I’m a vegetarian. But I read this horrible report about how I love all kinds of exotic meats. I haven’t been approached by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). But that doesn’t mean I’ve to go the other way,” she said.
Asin personally looks into the disabled and the needy. "But Asin does not like to talk about all this. These things are not to be spoken. She has been doing this for years now and has been a regular visitor to the various institutions in Chennai and Kerala. Being philanthropic is Asin's second nature and she puts her heart and soul in it."
